Skagit County

Engineering Firm:

David Evans and Associates (DEA)

Project overview:

This project provides for a complete repair and maintenance overhaul of the aging Marblemount Bridge located near the intersection of Hwy 20 and Cascade River Road in Marblemount, WA. The bridge is more than 90 years old, is currently under a weight restriction, and is limited to one lane of traffic. Planned improvements include sandblasting, replacing fasteners and sliding steel plate joints, repairing and strengthening gusset plates and truss members, a new epoxy overlay of the bridge deck, new concrete bridge rails on approach spans, and repainting the bridge.

Skill demonstrated:

Our team maintains the project Submittal, Construction Change Directive (CCD), and RFI log. We prepare a weekly construction meeting agenda, capture meeting minutes, issue a weekly documentation status log, and ensure all submittals are filed to the project workspace. In addition, we send submittals for review to Skagit County, and once approved, return them to the construction contractor to satisfy contract requirements.

Milestones:

Working collaboratively between the construction team and engineer of record during construction, planned repairs and maintenance will extend the life of the bridge, return the structure to two lane traffic, and remove the load posting, while preserving its historical importance in the area.
