Customer:

King County Metro

Engineering firm:

Jacobs

Project overview:

King County Metro is designing and constructing a modern best practices base for an all-battery fully electric bus fleet. South Annex Base will house and maintain up to 250 battery electric, zero-emission buses and operation facilities that are third-party certified green buildings. As of 2024, this project is in the design phase with construction scheduled to begin in 2025 and operations scheduled to kick off in 2028.

The project aims to achieve Living Building Challenge Core certification, signifying the use of fully regenerative building practices, and the Net Positive Energy Petal, which prioritizes energy efficiency to reduce wasteful spending of energy, resources, and capital. On an annual basis, Net Positive buildings produce more energy than they consume.

Other developments in scope are the daylighting of two branches of Riverton Creek and signalization and off-site right-of-way improvements.
