Project overview:

WSDOT’s Washington State Ferries (WSF) System Electrification Program (SEP) is the world’s largest marine electrification program in progress to date. It aims to electrify and modernize WSF’s entire system, currently including 21 auto/passenger ferries serving 20 terminals on 10 routes in Washington’s Puget Sound and adjacent waters. SEP program goals include eliminating 76% of WSDOT’s annual emissions by 2040, while improving air quality and public health, ferry service reliability, and economic sustainability in the region.

Skill demonstrated:

As part of the General Engineering Consultant (GEC) team for the SEP, Dossier Seattle is providing document control management to support and facilitate a seamless, long-term partnership between WSF and the GEC, promoting efficiency and adhering to WSF’s requirements.

Milestones:

To transition to a fully hybrid electric fleet, WSF plans to build 16 new hybrid vessels, convert 6 current diesel vessels to hybrid electric, and upgrade 16 ferry terminals for electric charging.
